Foundation Training Built for Lasting Success
At Michelle Jerry Heart & Hooves Horsemanship, every training horse begins from the ground up through a carefully structured Ground Control–based foundation. We believe a truly solid, confident horse is developed through time, consistency, and a thoughtful progression—not shortcuts. Horses like this are not made in 30 days. They are built through intentional training that supports the horse’s mind, body, and emotional balance.
Our program is designed around a strong foundation that blends liberty work, Ground Control, ranch riding, reining, and total body control. Each phase of training builds upon the next, ensuring the horse understands, stays relaxed, and gains confidence before advancing. We do not rush steps or skip fundamentals, because a strong foundation is what creates long-term success.
Starting With Ground Control
All horses begin with focused Ground Control and liberty training. This stage develops trust, clear communication, emotional regulation, and respect. Horses learn how to respond willingly, manage pressure, and stay mentally present. Ground Control establishes clarity and confidence, preparing the horse for success under saddle and in new environments.
Progressing Under Saddle
As training advances, we incorporate ranch riding and reining to develop balance, responsiveness, and softness. Ranch riding focuses on realistic movement, smooth transitions, and adaptability, creating a horse that is confident in both the arena and real-world situations. Reining enhances precision, body control, and self-carriage, helping the horse move with understanding and purpose.
Total Body Control
Total body control is woven throughout every stage of training. Horses learn how to control their shoulders, ribs, hips, and feet, improving balance, coordination, and confidence. This level of body awareness allows the horse to respond correctly, stay relaxed, and perform consistently—even in challenging or unfamiliar situations.
Realistic Timelines, Real Results
Our training programs begin at 60 days and build from there. This timeframe allows us to establish a meaningful foundation while giving the horse time to process, develop, and gain confidence. Many horses benefit from additional training time, and we work closely with each owner to determine the best path forward based on the horse’s individual needs and goals.
Partnering With the Owner
We believe successful training doesn’t end when the horse leaves our program. That’s why we work closely with owners throughout the process. We provide education, guidance, and hands-on support so owners understand their horse’s training, communication, and progression. When a horse goes home, both horse and owner are prepared to continue moving forward with confidence.
More Than Training Horses
At Heart & Hooves, we are not just training horses—we are building partnerships. Our goal is to develop willing, confident horses and knowledgeable, confident owners who can grow together. Through clear communication, intentional training, and a commitment to doing things right, we help create relationships that last far beyond the training pen.
